A new Drupal site for Lowy

A contemporary new Drupal website to showcase the Lowy Institute's high-quality research and distinctive perspectives on the international trends shaping Australia and the world.

What we did:

A fresh new look

The Lowy Institute is one of Australia’s leading think tanks, providing high-quality research and distinctive perspectives on the international trends shaping Australia and the world.

The Lowy Institute came to Digital Garden to redesign and develop their website, as the Drupal 7 framework on which their old site was built, was reaching the end of life.

The brief was to design a contemporary website that was easy to use, professional and could hold its weight when being compared to some of the biggest think tanks in the world, such as CSIS, Bruegel, FGV and JIIA, to name a few.

Digital Garden redesigned and built the Lowy website on Drupal 9. We migrated the interpreter website over to the new Drupal platform as well. For infrastructure, they wanted a solution that was extremely secure and that could perform well in the global arena, so we decided to host it on Platform.sh’s enterprise platform.

A refined design

Digital Garden applied the Lowy Institute’s new branding to several key pages across the website. The homepage has been redesigned to push the latest research and interactives to the front, using colour coded tags to help orient the user. The design is refined and reflects the credibility of the institution.

Many content mediums

Their are many different types of content that users can access across the site including articles, podcasts, interactives, videos and Twitter feeds.

Solr Search and filters

Users can quickly and easily find information on topics that they are interested in, by either filtering by issue type, or using the power Solr search engine that is installed on the site.

Content migration of the Interpreter

Not only did we redesign and develop the main Lowy website, but also migrated over the interpreter to Drupal 9, which is Lowys latest commentary and analysis on international issues.

Results

Feedback from the Lowy team has been extremely positive. They have been getting a great response about the new website, and from an admin perspective, the content contributors find the new setup far easier to use.
