Design brief.

Baxter engaged Digital Garden for an ambitious online ordering app project for its chemotherapy and antibiotic compounds called BOLT. It is aimed at the Australian and New Zealand markets and is a lynchpin of Baxter’s digital transformation.

On-the-go app experience.

On-the-go app experience.

Digital Garden created a responsive experience for tablet and desktop that kept in mind the user on-the-go in hospital pharmacy departments, with a high-graphical app experience for quick, intuitive choices by hospital staff.

Complete set of user stories

We conducted an exhaustive set of UX research activities and prototyping to ensure the complexities of the system and its user stories were accurately captured.

Complex integrations.

Complex integrations.

Our development included the creation of an API wrapper for the BOLT solution − integrating with the API endpoints available within Merlin, Baxter’s bespoke drug management system.

Beyond core ordering capabilities and user management, BOLT allows hospital pharmacy users to bulk CSV upload orders and reuse previous orders.

Developed using a decoupled frontend — Vue.js, HTML & CSS  − and a Drupal backend which drives the tool and the API wrapper, the system launched in Australia and New Zealand with a planned rollout to international markets.

Results.

The BOLT design is beautiful, and will set a new standard for user interface design and user experience in future solutions. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to support its development.
