To supply a suite of online virtual soccer management games for the 2007‐08 season in the UK, France, Spain, Mexico, and Germany. The games were required to be visually impressive, and be able to support a high volume of registrations in time for the season kickoff.
We worked with ESPN to produce a visually stunning flash front-end for their fantasy soccer site. We created a virtual soccer field where users could pick their top players and place them in formation to compete in an online tipping comp. Using flash we were able to create smooth transitions from opening stats panels, to players being dragged on and off the field. We even focused on details such as dressing each individual player in his team's jersey.
Advertising space was created on banners around the virtual soccer stadium so ESPN could generate revenue from sponsors, similar to real life stadiums.
The back-end was developed by our technical partner Green Wombat. They used Java to build a secure web application connecting to a MySql database server and taking payments across multiple payment gateways.
This site is a step ahead of similar gaming sites in terms of its look, feel and usability. The application was deployed in six languages, and has processed over half a million registrations. The system handled 250,000 member registrations in the first month of use.
